2015 FNB Durban Downwind Surfski Series is HERE!
The second half of KZN’s winter surfski season is fast approaching with the first race of the new FNB Durban Downwind Surfski Series kicking off this weekend!

The new series incorporates four existing races in the lead up to the fifth clash of the competition and the series feature race – the FNB Durban Downwind race – that doubles as World Series title race in 2015!

All five races will have a two day window period in order for racing to take place under the best available conditions, spoiling paddlers with some of the best racing on the KZN coast.

More info on each of the 2015 FNB Durban Downwind Surfski Series’ five races can be found below:

Race 1 – 13/14 June – Halfway Toyota Scottburgh Classic
Race 2 – 20/21 June – Seabreeze Build IT 5 Beaches

We have some awesome new sponsors getting involved in this year’s series with banking giant FNB leading the way as they continue their expansion of surfski sponsorship via their involvement as title sponsors of this year’s new series as well as race sponsors of the series feature race on 11/12 July.

FNB are joined in 2015 by fellow race sponsors Halfway Toyota, Seabreeze Buil it, Zurich Insurance and ET Security while Point Watersports will be giving away an awesome new surfski at race 5 as a lucky draw!

Race notice every Thursday
The two day window for each race as well as the many course options for the races provides a communication challenge for us as far as letting you know when races will be taking place each week.

Every Thursday we will put out a notice regarding the day, time and venue of the race as well as what course will be completed that weekend via four different communication channels!

All paddlers looking to take part in the FNB Durban Downwind Surfski Series should be registered with KwaZulu-Natal Canoe Union already and so will be informed via a KNCU-sent SMS. If you are not yet registered you unfortunately will not receive the sms.

If for whatever reason you don’t seem to receive KNCU SMSs, please email and we will sort this out for you.

New Safety Regulation
CSA passed some new rules a couple months back and it is time they are to be enforced.

We are heading into the more extreme races on the calendar and we need ALL paddlers to play ball in making sure they are abide by ALL safety regulations.

9 point check list for you to make sure you have everything:
1. PFD (recommended bright colour, bright colour will be a rule from 1 April 2016).
2. Leash
3. Your CSA number on craft
4. Cellphone
5. Tracking application (NSRI App with safety number on your sms list)
6. Whistle
7. Brightly coloured clothing & hat
8. 30% of the deck bright colored paint/decal (sticker sets will be on sale at the race for R 100 which include boat and paddle stickers)
9. Bright coloured decal on blade (on sale at the race as above)

If you arrive without any of this safety gear unfortunately you will not be allowed to start. We really don’t want to send a person off the start line for not meeting these safety regulations so please make sure you have ALL of the above.
